Compete with friends on public or private leaderboards, chase personal records together, and celebrate PRs as a team. Validate each other's posts, trade tips, and push one another and climb the leaderboards.
Earn XP, level up, and upgrade your virtual gym with new equipment and collectible pets that animate your space. Earn medals for each rank you achieve to display on your profile and unlock additional upgrades and cosmetics.
The built in workout tracker lets you build custom routines and circuits, add sets with reps and weights, and check off sets as you complete them. You can also use Coach K9 to assist in building routines tailored to your equipment, preferences, and goals.
When a user submits a post to a leaderboard it immediately appears in the main Community Feed, visible to you and the wider community for validation. Other users can validate or invalidate the lift; once a post reaches a majority of validations it becomes official, is added to the leaderboard, and the user earns their spot.
The feed supports two modes, Explore and Following, so you can toggle between discovering new content or viewing activity from people and gyms you follow. Each post includes a Rules button to view the competition rules, a comments area, and share controls to distribute the post inside or outside LiftReel. You can also open the built‑in DMs from the main feed (top‑right) to message other users directly about any post.
Ranked competitions are curated and run by the LiftReel team rather than created by individual users. These official events use skill based matchmaking so you will generally be matched against lifters of similar fitness and performance levels. Winning or placing highly on a ranked leaderboard earns you trophies and as you gain more trophies you will be promoted through a tiered ranking system.
As you move up you will face progressively tougher competitors. Each leaderboard type maintains its own ranking system so progress in one category, for example POUNDS leaderboards, does not directly change your rank in another category. On the Ranked tab you can filter available competitions by timeframe (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) and by leaderboard type to quickly find events that match your goals.
Community leaderboards are created by users via the top blue “+” button. You can give your board a title and description, set the rules and scoring method (reps, weight, time, distance, etc.), and choose a timeframe or other customizations. Posts made to public boards are discoverable in Explore and follow the normal community validation flow: once a submission receives the requisite validations it becomes official and is added to the public standings.
Private leaderboards are invite‑only and visible only to invited competitors either through the chat the leaderboard was sent or if they choose to save the private leaderboard to their profile; validation for private boards is limited to those who are invited, making them ideal for gyms, teams, or small communities. Creators are considered the admin of the competition and can edit the leaderboard at any time.
Users can build and run custom workout routines right from the tracker: create circuits, add sets, log reps and weights, and check off each set as you complete it to track real progress. Add rest timers, preset or custom exercises, and save reusable routines that can be shared with others allowing other users to copy shared routines to their profile for personal use.
Each exercise card includes a camera icon that opens the leaderboard flow so you can pick or search a leaderboard, record and upload your submission, and then return seamlessly to resume the workout.
On the Level page you can view the current Lift Pass and track seasonal releases. As you earn XP from competing in leaderboards, completing challenges, or maintaining a workout streak, you progressively unlock items in the Lift Pass. Every fifth item in the pass is free, and users can also purchase Lift Coins in the in app shop to unlock the full Lift Pass. Unlockable rewards include special items to upgrade your personal gym, XP boosters to accelerate progress, and team vouchers that let you enter team competitions of up to four people on a chosen leaderboard.
The Level page also displays your trophies and rank for each leaderboard type and provides direct access to seasonal challenges and daily objectives that help you earn more XP. You can monitor your current XP, see how close you are to the next tier, claim earned rewards, and preview upcoming items in the pass so you can plan which challenges or leaderboards to focus on next.
When posting to a leaderboard you tap "Enter Competition" which opens the in‑app camera to record your attempt. Uploads of existing videos are not allowed to maintain competition integrity, so all video submissions must be recorded inside the app. After you record and submit the video with the score, the submission is published to the main Community Feed where other users can validate or invalidate it. If a submission receives a majority of validations it becomes official and is added to the leaderboard; if it is judged invalid it is removed from the leaderboard.
In the leaderboard view you can see your current position on the board. Tap any position to view that user’s video submission, or open the Posts tab on the board to browse every submission made to that leaderboard. Use the About tab to view when the competition ends and to read the full rules. From the top corner of the leaderboard view you can share the leaderboard with friends or bookmark it, and bookmarked leaderboards are added to the Saved tab on your profile.
The profile page lets users grow their following and view follower and following counts, edit or share their profile, and review medals earned from leaderboard ranks. Users can unlock and equip custom profile frames to add visual flair. From their profile users can view their current level, see competitions they have won, and browse competitions they have completed.
The profile also provides quick access to a posts grid, saved leaderboards, and leaderboards the user has created. In the top right users can open the shop or view notifications. The menu gives access to settings or to the profile inventory where vouchers, XP boosters, and profile photo frames are stored.
When swiping down from the stats bar on the profile page it reveals your profile's virtual gym. As you level up in the app you unlock and equip new gym equipment, themes, customizations, items, and pet companions. When someone views your profile they can see your public profile information alongside a live view of your virtual gym, and when you browse other users' profiles you see each user's unique gym customizations and presentation.
Tap the top right to open the gym inventory and the top left to save up to three presets for quick hot swapping between setups. The virtual gym supports animated pets and interactive pets that react to player actions and can be unlocked through progression, purchase, or special achievements. Equipment and theme choices affect the gym layout, lighting, and presentation so you can showcase training setups, seasonal items, and collectible cosmetic rewards.
The virtual gym can be customized in many ways with a wide variety of items, themes, and interactive pets so users can create a unique look that reflects their personality and progress. As we release new seasons with additional customizations, items, and pets, user gyms will continue to evolve and become increasingly distinctive over time.
Coach K9 can create workout routines for users quickly and add them directly into a folder on their Routines page. Users can request a single workout or an entire six day split, and they can specify details such as the number of exercises, number of sets, preferred equipment, or specific goals. Alternatively, users can simply tell Coach K9 what equipment they have access to and what their goals are, and Coach K9 will create tailored routines that fit those constraints and organize them for easy access.
Example prompts include "Can you create me a 5 day workout split focusing on bench, squat, and deadlift strength for powerlifting" and "I recently injured my knee can you please create me a new 4 day workout split that avoids exercises with my knee and put the routines in a folder called active recovery", and Coach K9 will be able to fulfill them. Users are only charged for what they use, each request costs 5 LiftCoins, and LiftCoins can be purchased in bundles through the in app shop.
Users post two ways: videos must be recorded in-app for fairness, or for distance events (e.g. "Longest Run") users may enter using the app's built-in tracker to track their run.
We allow users to create an unlimited number of routines completely for FREE. Or you can choose to have Coach K9 create routines for you for 5 LiftCoins.
We keep it simple, if a post has more validations than invalidations then the post is considered valid by the majority of users and is accepted onto the leaderboard.
Yes, we are constantly working on new features and improvements to enhance the user experience and expand the capabilities of LiftReel. We plan to continue to serve our users and release new seasons which will come with new gym upgrades and features!
LiftReel was not created by a large corporation. LiftReel was created by two college students over the span of 2 years who are passionate about fitness and technology.
The idea came from a simple truth. When you train with friends, you push harder, stay consistent, and see better results. When that accountability disappears, motivation often goes with it. We wanted to fix that - to make fitness competitive, social, fun, and accessible.
App Store stars plus what users have told us.
LiftReel is an incredible app with so much to offer. It transforms real workouts into exciting competitions you can do anytime, anywhere, and with anyone. Not to mention the ability to create private leaderboards with friends adds an extra layer of fun and accountability, making every workout more engaging and the validation system keeps it fair. I love earning XP and leveling up my virtual gym and it keeps me motivated and coming back for more. Easy to use, highly motivating, and genuinely exciting. Highly recommend!
I wasn't really into the gym or tracking workouts, but LiftReel pushed me to do better. Competing with friends has me exercising almost every day because I want to win leaderboards and beat them. I probably wouldn't be tracking my runs or lifts, or exercising much at all, if it wasn't for LiftReel.
I found my way back to training thanks to LiftReel. I had limited equipment and didn't know which program to follow, so I told Coach K9 what gear I had and he built a tailored routine, added it to my page, and it was ready in no time. Now I track workouts daily and submit PR videos to leaderboards whenever I'm feeling it.
